The toasty aroma of popcorn, squeaky seats, first-date gazes, dimming lights, curtains opening, laughter, tears, hearts racing, connections, togetherness, empathy, getting lost in the story....the cinema atmosphere is hard to beat. A communal experience (unless you've hit the jackpot and landed an entire screen to yourself) - there's just so much satisfaction in watching a film on the big screen. Something that will never get old amongst film-goers.

For me, a night at the flicks beats a night on the town. Slurping (in a quiet and respectful way, of course!) overpriced sodas and munching on toasted kernels with the latest blockbuster or a re-run of a classic is, in my view, perfection.
London does film well all year round but during the summer evenings, it's particularly special. Here are just a few of the best events for film buffs to get excited about ...
Huddle up in (free) blankets, grab a beer and popcorn and settle in for a selection of new releases and classics at four rooftop locations around London: Shoreditch, Stratford, Peckham and Kensington. Experience incredible panoramic views of the city on a summer's evening with oversized wireless headphones and surprisingly comfy deck chairs.
Some upcoming films to book tickets for include Amy, The Imitation Game, Back to the Future and Top Gun. (Psst! It gets a little chilly up there so remember a cosy jumper...)
Watch a film under the stars at one of the most romantic venues of the UK's number 1 outdoor cinema. With plenty of scenic venues in London to choose from (Kew Gardens, Battersea Park and Victoria Embankment Gardens to name just a few) and the prospect of a picnic to accompany the film - you're looking at one lovely evening. As the sun sets and the Maltesers are opened, the great British public cross their fingers, hoping for a couple of hours of clear skies as they are transported into their chosen film. The Luna Cinema is more than just an outdoor cinema, it's a magical film event with those extra little touches and themes to wow the cinema lovers. Choose from Mamma Mia, Ghostbusters, Napoleon Dynamite, The Grand Budapest Hotel and many more!
Open-air cinema at its finest, the Film4 Summer Screen is an ever popular series amongst film lovers, gracing the beautiful courtyard of London's infamous, Somerset House. Balmy summer evenings, a state of the art screen and surround sound, hundreds of cushions (no one wants a numb bum!) and an array of classic, cult and contemporary films to choose from - what's not to love? Very charmingly, live DJs will set up the film perfectly with a carefully selected soundtrack inspired by the upcoming film. Some screenings are even introduced by the film's stars and directors. As usual tickets are getting snapped up very quickly but there are still availability for a few showings...be quick! (There are some interesting Behind the Scenes events, too!).
