Pattern Coffee, located on the Kings Cross end of Caledonian Road, is an absolute treat and it is so much more than just a coffee shop. Here's why...
The décor for a start - everywhere you look there is a splash of colour and a unique interior feature – from the bowler hat lights to the step ladder-turned-bookshelf. Genius.
Then there is the quality of the coffee, which is top-notch (and I would know being a self-diagnosed caffeine addict). There is a generous selection of teas with lemon and ginger my personal favourite. To go along with the liquid refreshments are a yummy selection of croissants, wraps, soups and an array of cakes (I can actually hear the salted caramel brownies call out to me, I swear), which are all freshly made and easy on the wallet.
The atmosphere in Pattern is friendly and super chilled with free Wifi on offer and great tunes to listen to while you catch up with friends or settle down to get some work done. Owner, Georgie, makes you feel welcome from the minute you walk through the door, which is pretty rare to find in a city dominated by souless chains.
One of my favourite things about Pattern is that they encourage their regular customers to get creative by giving them blank loyalty cards, which you have to design yourself and add to the collection on the wall. As someone who spends far too many hours staring at a laptop or phone screen, this has been a very welcome task to enjoy on a break.
Pattern may be small in size but it makes up for that by being an independent coffee shop that is full of warmth, creativity and has a real sense of community - coffee culture at its finest.
Next time you are in the area, you should definitely stop by (I will be the one in the corner with the crayons, colouring-in my next card).
